Spearmint (Mentha spicata) – Essential Oil

Spearmint is commonly known as the minty, breath-freshening flavouring agent used in oral hygiene products such as toothpaste and mouthwash. It is Spearmint that leaves a cool, tingling sensation that leaves the mouth feeling clean. Spearmint gets its name from its spear-shaped leaves and is believed to be the oldest member of the Mint family. Its scent is softer and milder than that of Peppermint Essential Oil, making it ideal for children, the elderly, and those with sensitive skin.

Spearmint Oil is said to help reduce nasal congestion caused by the excessive buildup of phlegm and mucus in the nose and throat, thereby promoting easier breathing. It revitalizes the body and the mind by working to enhance mood and concentration, and by increasing circulation through the skin. Its anti-inflammatory quality is known to cool red, swollen, and itching skin and to help reduce the sensations of inflammation. It also helps to cleanse the pores and tighten the skin, which may potentially promote the speedy healing of minor abrasions. When inhaled, it can ease feelings of stress and nervousness, and diffusing Spearmint Oil while studying can boost concentration and reduce feelings of anxiety.

How to use:

• A few drops in a diffuser can help with the congestion associated with a cold or allergies. Equal drops of Spearmint and Rosemary make a blend that will aid concentration and improve memory retention.
• Add 5 drops of essential oil to one teaspoon of Coconut oil and rub on the belly in a clockwise motion for digestive issues.
