In Troy, Raspberry was linked to fertility and young children in the story of Ida, nursemaid to the infant Zeus, who pricked her finger while picking snow-white berries; thus, staining them red for all eternity.
Properties:
Mild, bitter and cooling. Meridians and organs affected are spleen, liver, kidneys. The leaf is the most valuable medicinal part of the raspberry plant. Raspberry leaf could be used with Shatavari, Alfalfa and Nettles as a general uterine tonic, or paired with Rose or Hibiscus flowers for menstrual cramps.
Also beneficial for milk production, mouth ulcers and as a gargle for sore throats. It can also be used as an eyewash.
Combine Raspberry leaf with Lady’s Mantle and Vitex (Chasteberry) to support a woman’s reproductive organs, with Dandelion Leaf or Oat Seed for a mineral-rich tea and Rosehips or Hibiscus to support vitamin C absorption.
How to use:
1 teaspoon of Red Raspberry to one cup of boiling water. Simmer for 15 minutes, strain and drink up to three cups a day.
