Psyllium, also known as Indian Psyllium and Blonde Psyllium, is an annual herb with narrow green leaves and white flower stocks. Plantago ovata is a member of the Plantaginaceae family. It is native to Iran and India but now also cultivated throughout the Mediterranean, western Asia, and the southwestern United States.
The Seed and Husk have been used traditionally in India, Europe, China and the United States for multiple digestive purposes. Psyllium Husk has been traditionally used to relieve constipation and promote regularity. The Husk is the outer layer of the seed.
Properties:
The taste and energetics of Psyllium Husk is flavourless, and moistening. Psyllium Husk has an affinity for the digestive tract. To promote regular bowel movements, combine with Marshmallow Root or Slippery Elm Bark.
How to use:
Add 1 teaspoon of Psyllium husk to a cup of water or juice. Make sure it is thoroughly combined. Drink an additional glass of water afterwards.
Cautions & contraindications:
Take with at least 250ml (8 oz.) of water. Taking this product without adequate fluid may cause it to swell and block your throat or esophagus and may cause choking. Do not take this product if you have difficulty in swallowing.
Other drugs should be taken one hour prior to consumption of Psyllium or several hours after consumption, as Psyllium may reduce the absorption of certain drugs due to the mucilage content and the increased speed of passage through the intestines.
Gas or stomach bloating may also occur.
