Also known as Stinging Nettle or Common Nettle. Nettles were once used as a stable fibre for thread and yarn. In Norse mythology, Nettle is associated with Thor the God of Thunder; and with Loki the trickster god, whose magical fishing net is made from the herb. In Celtic lore, thick stands of Nettle indicate that there are fairy dwellings close by, and the sting of the Nettle protects against fairy mischief.
Nettle’s element is Fire. In Ayurvedic medicine, Nettle energy is recognized as bitter, salty, cool and dry. David Hoffmann, Herbalist and Author of “Medical Herbalism” says: “When in doubt, choose Nettle.”
Properties
Nettle root has been widely used for benign prostatic hyperplasia, It’s not just a “male” thing though, it has also been used for strengthening and reducing inflammation in the pelvic floor of women.
Nettles are high in Chlorophyll as well as Vitamin C, serotonin and histamine. It is high in trace minerals including iron, calcium, and silica.
May be used as a blood tonic and to assist the kidneys in releasing uric acid. Could also be useful as a re-mineralizer, for high blood sugar, skin problems, painful joints and itching.
For prostate combine Nettle root with Sarsaparilla root, Marshmallow root, Hydrangea root or Saw palmetto.
How to use:
1 teaspoon of Nettle Root to one cup of boiling water. Simmer for 15 minutes, strain and drink up to three cups a day.
