Melissa 10% (Melissa officinalis) – Essential Oil

Melissa or Lemon Balm has been described as a boost for the brain, strengthening the memory and great for chasing away melancholy. Melissa is the Greek word for honey bee and the sweet citrus fragrance is very attractive to bees. Melissa is also known as lemon balm and is known in Hebrew as Bal-Smim which means chief of oils.

Melissa essential oil is uplifting, revitalizing and harmonizing. It has a very soothing effect on the emotions. It is uplifting to the spirit and is known for aiding healthy digestion and for clearing the head. It has a fresh, sweet lemony scent. Melissa oil is calming and has been beneficial in preparations that reduce the annoyance of flying insects. It is also a great skin tonic. It is soothing and calming in the bath and may reduce redness and puffiness on the skin.

One of the best known benefits of Melissa is it’s ability to treat cold sores from herpes simplex virus 1 and 2. This oil is diluted with Jojoba oil so it wouldn’t be suitable in a diffuser, use only topically. Melissa is a rare and expensive oil as it takes literally a ton to make a small amount of essential oil.

Blends well with: Geranium, Lavender, Lemon, Grapefruit, Orange, Neroli and Rose.

How to use:

• Add a few drops into a diffuser for its uplifting, revitalizing and harmonizing effects. 
• Add a few drops into a carrier oil and apply topically to help treat cold sores from herpes simplex virus 1 and 2.
