Mucuna is referred to as the Velvet Bean or Cowhage, Mucuna and is a tropical vine that produces pods containing numerous seeds. Mucuna has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for over two thousand years.
The seeds and powder have been used therapeutically over time and are known to support all of the tissues in the body, but is especially suited to balance the nervous, reproductive, and digestive systems. Mucuna is renowned for benefiting the central nervous system, stress, balance and posture, motor skills and coordination, energy, libido and both male and female reproductive systems.
How to use:
Take 1/4 teaspoon as a tonic per day, or up to 1/2 teaspoon per day. Add powder to water, coconut water, juice, or smoothies.
To make a tea infusion, add 1/4 teaspoon to a cup of hot water or to a dairy alternative like almond milk. Let it sit for 10 minutes to allow the compounds to be released. Add honey to add a touch of sweetness.
Contraindications:
Do not use if you are taking MAO Inhibitors or other antidepressants. Avoid taking high doses for more than a month if you have Parkinson’s Disease.
