Wood Betony, Cut & Sifted (Stachys officinalis) – Dried Herb, Organic

Wood Betony is a herb related to the mint plant and is native to Europe. It has a long central stem with a spike of purple flowers. For centuries, this herb was thought to have special properties. The ancient Egyptians and Anglo-Saxons believed Betony to be magical and both men and women of the Middle Ages wore amulets of Betony to ward off evil. The ancient Romans thought Wood Betony as being helpful  for 47 different maladies.

Wood Betony was traditionally  used in European folk herbalism as a remedy for the respiratory system and nerve pain. The Gaelic name for Wood Betony is “lis bheathag” or “life plant”.

Properties:

Many find Wood Betony to be an uplifting and slightly warming relaxing aromatic.

This herb has an affinity to the nervous system and any head discomfort. It’s extremely gentle but powerful in the sense that it creates a sense of being grounded. 

As a dream tea Wood Betony blends well with Linden, Passionflower and a pinch of Mugwort. 

How to use:

1 teaspoon of Wood Betony to one cup of boiling water. Steep for 15 minutes, strain and drink up to three cups a day.
