Lobelia has a long history of therapeutic and ritual use. Lobelia inflata is in the Campanulaceae family. An herbaceous annual that likes to grow in compact soils. Other common names include Pukeweed, Indian Tobacco, Vomit Wort and Wild Tabacco. Native to eastern North America, Lobelia has a long history of use by indigenous tribes for its wellness-supporting properties.
The genus Lobelia comprises of a substantial number of larger and smaller annuals, perennial and shrubby species that range in colours. Many species appear totally dissimilar from each other. However, all have simple, alternate leaves and two-lipped tubular flowers, each with five lobes. Flowering is often abundant and the flower colour intense: hence, its popularity as ornamental garden subjects.
You can often find Lobelia used in smoking blends and teas.
Properties:
Lobelia is said to expel mucus from the respiratory tract. Most commonly used for its relaxing effects on the bronchioles and to sooth muscles. Because of its affinity with the lungs you will often see it used for smoking cessation.
Combines well with Mullein and other lung supportive herbs.
How to use:
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of Lobelia leaf to one cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes. Drink up to two cups a day.

May cause dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors and rapid heartbeat in large doses.
