A great but simple detoxing beverage that can be made using a variety of herbs. This can be made to enjoy hot or cold.
Ingredients:
- ½ cucumber OR
- 1 lemon or lime
- 1 teaspoon of any of the following herbs or combination of;
- Dried mint leaves
- Lemon balm
- Shredded ginger root
- Red clover
- Nettle leaf
- Rosehips
Directions:
- Boil water and fill a teapot with boiled water.
- Add the fruit of your choice and add up to 3 teaspoons of desired herb or combinations of herbs.
- If you are using cucumber you will probably want to do a cold infusion or tea
- Steep for 20 minutes and strain.
- You may drink 2: or 3 cups per day 3 cups per day.
Other detoxing herbs you can use, usually 1 teaspoon per cup.
- Basil
- Basil is a great source of Vitamin K, Manganese, Iron, Vitamin A, and Vitamin C. Use it for calcium, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids. Basil is also good for digestion, reducing inflammation, and fighting free radical activity. It has a sweet flavour and somewhat anise flavour that goes well with lime, cucumber, orange, and other fruits.
- Mint
- Mint has lots of Vitamin A, iron, and manganese. It helps to relieve indigestion and may improve bowel issues. The mint works well with cucumber, celery, and apple.
- Oregano
- Oregano is particularly rich in antioxidants. As well as Vitamin B6, potassium, copper, and fiber. Oregano has a slightly bitter flavor so use it sparingly in your juice. Try with orange or grapefruit.
- Parsley
- Parsley contains vitamins A, K, and C and good amounts of calcium, iron, magnesium, and potassium. Parsley is known for brightening flavors. Use it with apple and ginger.
- Rosemary
- Rosemary’s a great source of Vitamin B6, potassium, and copper. It adds Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and Folate. With a slightly minty, sage-like flavor, Rosemary goes well with Lemon and Pear.
- Thyme
- Add thyme to your juices for Vitamin E, Thiamin, Zinc, and Magnesium. This would be a nice addition to beets and celery.
