Ginger has many healing possibilities and the purpose of a hot Ginger compress is to dissolve mucus, ease tension and blockages and mainly to stimulate circulation and energy flow or Chi. It is very beneficial for moving stagnation in the kidneys, lungs and liver.
Ingredients & Supplies:
- 75 grams grated ginger
- Cotton cloth or handkerchief
- Sting or elastic band
- 2 face cloths
- Pot for boiling water
- Additional towels for covering compress
Directions:
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
- Grate a big chunk of Ginger root into a cotton cloth or handkerchief.
- Secure with an elastic band or tie up with string.
- When water comes to a boil, immerse the Ginger bundle into the water.
- Turn off heat and allow the Ginger to sit in the water for about 10 minutes.
- When the water has cooled off enough to the touch, add two face cloths.
- Remove one facecloth, wring it out and place on an area you wish to detox. Cover this cloth with a small hand towel to hold in the heat.
- Alternate facecloths about every 5 minutes to keep the area warm putting the cool one back in the water.
- Make sure the cloths aren’t so hot that they burn the skin. Keep this up for about 20 mins, or until the skin is very pink and warm to the touch.
- Remove cloths, dry the area and rest comfortably, keeping warm.
- Hydrate yourself by drinking some water or tea.
This may be performed three times in a week. Can be used on the chest, on the kidneys, over the liver or on the abdominal area.
A ginger poultice should not be applied in feverish conditions as it is very warming and stimulating.
