Ulva lactuca is an edible green seaweed a member of the Ulvaceae family, commonly found on intertidal rocks, in tide pools, on reef flats, growing on shells, piling, pieces of wood, other seaweed or free-floating. The aqueous plant has thin, almost sheet-like, lobed and ruffled edges resembling a head of green leaf lettuce. Ten species, all edible, are found around the world in cool water.

Sea Lettuce is typically added to culinary dishes for its nutritious value. Popular in Scotland, Sea Lettuce flakes are often added to soups and salads. It is very high in iron, protein, iodine, manganese and nickel.
